Wilderness Skills Intensive
The difference between Wilderness Survival and Wilderness Living is how stressful the prospect of gathering and utilizing specific resources is to an individual and his/her community. The basic human needs in any situation are Shelter, Water, Fire, and Food. In this weekend workshop, participants learn how to turn a stressful survival situation into a wilderness living adventure. This is achieved by reuniting ourselves with the very tools we (humans) have been utilizing since before steel, and by empowering the wisdom found in nature that allows us to live in a sacred way, close to the rhythms of the earth. As if coming to a rite of passage, participants begin to feel at-home, and are welcomed in the woods by the earth, as if to belong.
This program is designed for mature adults looking to rekindle their connection with the life forces of the earth, and to deepen their pragmatic sense of awareness, which enables them to have confidence in themselves and in the community of the world.
Participants will learn how to locate natural materials for building Shelters, how to locate and sanitize Water, to make Fire by friction (bow-drill/hand-drill), to learn about various North American Plants (where they grow, how to harvest and process them), and to harvest animals in energy-efficient ways.
The Sacred Four: Shelter, Water, Fire, and Food are the cornerstone resources of our existence.
“Wilderness Survival can be Wilderness Living. The choice is yours, or when you make it.”
