Tree Identification and Forest Community Awareness

In two evening sessions participants will learn to see the trees and the forest.  You will learn to identify fifty different trees and shrubs of Ontario, as well as practical ways to differentiate between species. You will be also introduced to forest communities and families.

Other concepts to be discussed include:

  • The Skin of the Earth - the world of Green 
  • Layers of Green and the major classification systems of forest communities
  • Native/invasive and exotic species
  • The identification of wildflowers, annuals, biennials, perenniels, herbaceous species
  • Conservation, Restoration, Preservation and Naturalization
  • Endangered Species/Species At Risk
  • Practical Stewardship

The class is comprised of field activities and workshop lectures.

When:  July 28(tues) and 29(wed), 2009.  6 pm-10 pm                

Where: Sticks and Stones Workshop- Caledon, ON

Cost: $79 (includes instruction and all course materials)
