Traditional Hide Tanning Workshop

Sticks and Stones Wilderness School is partnering up with seasoned tanner Alexis Burnett, of EarthTracks, to run this workshop together.

Traditional Hide Tanning Workshop

Up until the industrial revolution, tanned skins in one form or another were used for clothing, footwear, bags pouches, tee pees and almost everything else that modern synthetics provide us with now. During this workshop, participants learn the traditional techniques of making Buckskin by doing it from start to finish. Different than leather, traditional brain tanned buckskin is made by using the natural lubricants and tools found in the animal, as well as other natural materials and wood smoke. Participants learn the entire traditional process, and take home the work they have completed.
