Primitive Cooking and Preserving Intensive
In a survival situation, ones ability to continually locate, harvest, gather, prepare, preserve and store food can mean unintentional periods of fasting when energy from calories is needed most of all or it can be the living Garden of Eden, opening the doors of wilderness living to an art form. A dance, a living prayer, the gift of living one more day means harvesting. Connection with ones food is a humbling experience that can trigger an individual to sincerely check in, deep down and ask how much do I take care. Care about the lives that allow me to have mine. To mingle your tracks with the wild ones and disappear into the mourning mist on the trail of your next meal is the fun part, the adventure. Your method and harvesting tool depends upon your intent and respect for the harvest. It is said, the real work begins when you have harvested your animal or plants, and you to need show your respect in the way you prepare and honor the meal.
Participants will learn a variety of regionally specific and universally used cooking methods, learn traditional dishes, recipes and harvesting cycles of the year by preparing several communal feasts. Emphasising “Caretaker” ethics of stewardship in every part of the workshop and how to integrate and practice the skills at home will be discussed and the group will harvest extremely nutritious local, native plants for our meals.
