FAQ: Wilderness Programs

What’s the difference between the Wilderness Programs and the Nature Classes?

Put simply, the Wilderness Programs are longer in duration than the nature classes, and delve more deeply into the skills. The nature of the topics is also different; participants get more “dirt time” with the Wilderness Programs, and move beyond introductory naturalist knowledge and experience.

Do I need Wilderness living experience to participate in the Wilderness Programs?

Some of our programs, such as the comprehensive, introductory one-week “Empowering Ancient Ways” program does not require participants to have any experience with wilderness skills. Some of our programs do, such as the Traditional Hunting class; in order to set a respectful tone and ensure that everybody is on the same page, Empowering Ancient Ways or an equivalent program is required.

Where  are the Wilderness Programs taught from?

Many of our programs and classes are taught from out of our sustaianble off-the-grid workshop in Caledon, Ontario. We also run classes out of the Wolf Den hostel near Algonquin Park and other retreat centres across southern Ontario.
